Identities for sale: the illegal trade in latin american personal data on Telegram
The research documents the existence of an illegal market for personal data operating on Telegram, with possible links to government databases in Latin America. We identified 27 active groups and channels in Brazil, Peru, and Argentina dedicated to the commercialization of sensitive information through automated bots and digital payments. In these spaces, anyone can obtain within seconds data associated with an ID number, name, or phone number under a model that combines limited free queries with full access through paid services.
