Derechos Digitales: The Start of a New Cycle

On September 1st a new stage in the history of Derechos Digitales will begin. After four highly successful years of leadership, María Paz Canales will leave her position as executive director of our organisation. María Paz will continue being part of Derechos Digitales, contributing to our work on public policy at the international level.

From September on, Derechos Digitales will adopt a co-direction model led by Jamila Venturini and J. Carlos Lara, current members of the organisation’s managerial staff. This shared leadership model responds to the need of decision-making bodies with strengthened capacities to respond to the agile and effective fulfillment of our mission, in a context of solid institutional growth.

Both Jamila and J. Carlos are supported by solid civil society backgrounds in the fields of digital rights, law and social sciences. During this new cycle, their main goal is to deepen the regional work of the organisation, with a particular focus on broadening the debate on technology policies from a Latin American perspective.

Filled with gratitude for María Paz’s leadership, and all her effort and dedication, and also very happy with the confidence placed by our Board in Jamila and J. Carlos to lead this new stage, the Derechos Digitales’ team reaffirms its commitment to the defence of rights in the digital environment in Latin America in the cycle that is beginning.
